Low Fire Soda

Event Description

This workshop will cover a variety of making techniques including wheel throwing, slab building, coil building, and extruding parts for use in vessel making. This workshop will also cover surface preparation for soda firing including slips, underglazes, underglaze crayons, stamping, staining, washes, and decal application; firing temperatures and clay bodies for use in the soda kiln; and finishing work including cold working, refiring, cleaning post fired surfaces, repairing flaws from atmospheric disturbances, and adding decals. Students in this workshop will make work for firing to approximately cone 3 in a soda kiln.
