SpoOOooOky Lanterns using Potters Choice Glazes
Create your own Halloween decor with this fun and easy DIY Clay Lantern project in your studio!!
This lantern was glazed with 3 coats of PC-56 Ancient Copper on the outside and 3 coats of PC-63 Cosmic Tea Dust on the inside and then fired to Cone 5!
Supplies List
- brent Model CXC Wheel - Black
- AMACO No. 11 A-Mix White Stoneware
- Throwing Tools (Sponge, Rib, Clay Wire Cutter, etc.)
- Clay Knife
- AMACO Potter's Choice PC-63 Cosmic Tea Dust
- AMACO Potter's Choice PC-56 Ancient Copper
How to Throw a Paper Bag Lantern
- Throw a 5" tall cylinder
- Form into a rectangle. Use a metal rib to smooth the sides, starting at the base
- Add indents on the sides to create the bag shape
- Use a wire tool to cut off and remove the piece from the wheel
- Allow piece to firm up to leather-hard
- Cut spooky faces on both sides
- Cut angles at the top of the bag
- Soften the edges using a damp sponge
- Allow piece to dry, the bisque fire to cone 04.
- Apply 3 coats of PC-56 Ancient Copper to the outside and 3 coats of PC-63 Cosmic Tea Dust to the inside.
- Glaze fire to cone 5
