Event Description

Explore the “cooler” side of ceramics in this earthenware and soda-firing workshop. We will focus on wheelthrowing while also venturing into handbuilding methods, including slab, coil, and extruding. Our vessels will serve as canvases as we decorate them with complex and layered surfaces using slips, stains, washes, underglaze crayons, stamping, staining, washes, and decals. These surface techniques are applicable to wheelthrown, handbuilt, or sculpted forms. Using a low-fire soda approach, we will fire our earthenware vessels to approximately cone 3 in the soda kilns. This workshop will focus primarily on surface decorating techniques.

Students with throwing experience are welcome to explore forms, while beginners will work with simple handbuilt vessels. All levels. Upper clay studio.
