Lush and Layered Decoration with Taylor Sijan
October 10-11, 2026
Event Description
Learn how to create layered surfaces on your ceramic work in this two-day workshop!
In this skill-building session, Taylor will demonstrate how she creates rich surfaces on unfired clay using stamping, slip trailing, carving, and painted gradients of colorful underglaze over botanical stencils. Students will experiment with slip trailing on soft tile and underglaze painting on bone dry tile. Students are encouraged to bring simple stencil shapes cut from newsprint to class for practicing, but this is not required. Students may choose to bring a few of their own pieces for practice if they wish: 2-3 bone dry pieces for underglazing and a couple of soft pieces for slip trailing. All other supplies (including practice tiles) will be supplied. Morning coffee & tea and a full lunch will be served each day of the workshop. Registration deadline: Friday, September 4.
Taylor Sijan is a full-time studio artist from Catawba Island, Ohio.
