Penland Workshop: Transfer Lab with Catie Miller

Event Description

Students in this workshop will work with low-fire clay and explore image transfer techniques.They may choose what to make—simple forms like cups, bowls, or plates, or a series of tiles—to practice applying transfers in different ways. We’ll collaborate on mixing and firing a range of colored slip tests. Techniques will include hand-drawn transfers, monoprinting on clay, DIY screen printing, rice paper transfers, collaging with transfers, applying transfers to 3D forms, creating templates, and more. Students will leave with a stack of paper transfers, a collection of color recipes, and any work dry enough to be bisque fired to cone 04. This four-day workshop will not cover the basics of forming clay objects. Students with clay experience will have the opportunity to work on more complex forms, while beginners will focus on transferring imagery onto tiles. All levels. Upper clay studio.
