Workshop: Hinges and High Temp Wire with Juliann Roush

This 2-day workshop kicks it up a notch!
Geared toward: Participants with some clay experience.
What to expect:
- Create puffy wall sculptures with actual, functional hinged doors
- Start by making wire stamps, which are used to:
- Make textural impressions
- Add whimsical appliqués
- Use your custom stamps to design your “puffy” sculptures
- Learn through live demos and tips on:
- Glazing techniques using squeeze bottles and an AirPen
- Incorporating high-temperature wire for added drama and design
In this fun 2 day workshop, participants will learn how to make a
slab built, stamped Hinged Puffy Box / Wall hanging.
"I will demonstrate how I making my unique aluminum wire stamps to make fun texture, design and patterns on slabs of clay. Students will also have the opportunity to make their own unique stamps.
"Much of my work incorporates using high temperature wire as decorative design. I will talk about how I use high temperature wire and its many possible uses.
"Students will also have the opportunity to try glazing with Amaco Satin Matte glazes using squeeze bottles. I will also discuss how versatile these mixable glazes are in making one’s own unique color palette. One small textured tile will be included for each student to practice glazing.*"
Day 1:
Demo and Make Wire Stamps
Stamp Design onto Clay Slabs & Cut Out Pattern - Heart Shape or Circle Shape
Demo glazing using Amaco Satin Matte Glazes with squeeze bottles.
Lunch Break
Assemble Puffy Box Form - Let form dry to a leather hard stage for the next day.
Add a decorative edge to the Puffy Box Form.
Add Feet and Hanger to the Puffy Box Form.
Students can start glazing their sample tile as time permits.
Day 2:
Cut the door into leather hard Puffy Box Form
Add coils to interior of box to strengthen join
Make Hinges
Lunch Break
Add Decoration to the box with clay and high temp wire.
Finish glazing bisque tile
