2025 Glaze Roundup!
Amaco was on a roll this year, bringing you a stampede of new glazes guaranteed to excite potters, sculptors, teachers, and more. Let's take a look back at our new glazes.
We started out 2025 introducing the Kiln Ice series. Kiln Ice (KI) are based on traditional Guan Snowflake crackle glazed ware from Song Dynasty China. The surfaces of Kiln Ice glazes crackle not only across the surface but under the surface, creating a layered pattern like ice crystals or delicately fallen snowflakes. These glazes are a perfect match-up with our new Premium Chocolate clays, particularly Dark Chocolate. The magic of Kiln Ice on Dark Chocolate clay cannot be overstated.
Moving away from traditional glazes, we introduced another new glaze series – Crawls! The Crawl glazes can be used alone to create a beaded surface, or over another glaze to create a visual texture. This series can be used in a wide variety of ways, including functional pottery (when used over Celadon glazes), or for sculptural or decorative pieces. We have had so much fun with the ways we can use these glazes.
With Crawls you can layer like never before, bringing a new dimension to your glazes.
We also reintroduced the new and improved Velvet Sprayz. We took our ever-popular Velvet underglazes and packaged them in a spray can. The new Velvet Sprayz boast better canisters and better spray nozzles.
Velvet Sprayz can be used to apply Velvet underglazes quickly, create beautiful gradient colors, or graffiti inspired designs.
Speaking of saving time, we added several new colors to our Dipping & Layering (DL) line. The Dipping & Layering glazes are sold dry and packaged to mix with 1 gallon of distilled water to create nearly 2 gallons of glaze, perfect for production pottery or a classroom setting. The newest DL glazes bring you more color options, inspired by favorite Amaco Potter’s Choice and Celadon glazes. The newest colors include Stardust, Brick Red, and Coastline, all great colors for layering or on their own.
Most recently, we added five new glazes to the Potter’s Choice line, trying out new colors of some favorites. Try Lapis Float, a light violet that runs like Seaweed, layered over Moon River, a white glaze with cool amber specks where it’s thick. The newest PC glazes also include Serpentine Green, Tuscan Blue, and Cosmic Gold Dust!
