About Rachel
"I grew up in a small, artsy town in northern New Mexico and learned at a young age both how to be a small business owner and that being an artist was an acceptable life path. I took my first wh
eel throwing class in college (while originally planning to get my degree in graphic design) and was completely hooked. Since then I’ve done various assistantships and residencies around the US and work as a full time artist."
Q: What inspires your work or keeps you excited in the studio?
A: "Making sure to spend time outside of the studio on hobbies and adventures keeps me the most excited to get back into the studio. Also doing experiments in the studio is crucial to both development and inspiration."
Q: What is your favorite AMACO product and why?
A: "My very favorite Amaco product is the velvet underglazes. They come in incredible, punchy colors and I can always count on them to give me consistent results."
Q: Any advice you'd give to someone just starting out with clay?
A: "Learn and do everything! Ask everyone around you for wisdom! You never know what will click with you, so you just have to keep seeking."
