Getting to know the Teacher's Palette Glaze Family
Want the ease of paint in a low-fire glaze, without any need for a clear glaze over it? Welcome to Teacher’s Palette glazes! This one glaze family can be used so many ways!
Teacher’s Palette glazes:
- Apply like paint
- Opaque, bright color, even over dark clay
- Mix like paint for custom colors and ombre effects
- Stiff, so they stay where you put them
- Glossy without a clear glaze
- Can be used with a clear glaze and will stay in place and hold their color
- All food safe
- All non-toxic and suitable for the classroom
Gouache painting method
Use TP glaze like gouache or tempera paints. One coat will be translucent, increasing coats will be more opaque. If using in layers, work from light to dark colors for maximum coverage, but even white will show up over black.
Watercolor painting method
TPs can be used like watercolors, either mixed with water for increased transparency or dried out in a pan and painted like a traditional dry watercolor pan. Plant Studies with Teacher's Palette Glazes
Majolica style method
Imitate the look and feel of traditional majolica ware by painting pieces with 2 coats of TP-11 Cotton. Apply colors of TP over Cotton in patterns. Any areas left unpainted by darker colors will still be glossy when fired.
“Scratching the Surface” Lesson Plan
Teacher’s Palette glazes can also be used for a modified Sgraffito method on glazed commercial tiles. Use plain field tiles and apply Teacher’s Palette over the tile, then scratch through with a tool to create a design and fire to cone 05. - Transparent colors with the same base as the TP glazes
- Can be mixed with other TPLs or with the TP glazes for custom colors and varied transparency
