Layering with Potter’s Choice over Dipping & Layering Glazes!

Potter’s Choice is AMACO’s most popular glaze line for a reason—beautiful on its own and incredible when layered. Dipping & Layering (DL) glazes make the process faster and easier for production work. Start with a DL base coat, add your favorite Potter’s Choice glaze, and achieve the layered looks you love with less effort.

Here are some amazing results using PC glazes over DL glazes.

Reminder: All samples shown are on AMACO No. 11 A-Mix White Stoneware and fired to cone 6, no hold.

Magic Purple

A variation on the classic combination of PC-31 Oatmeal over PC-33 Iron Lustre, Magic Purple creates all the unexpected colors even as it speeds up your glazing! For this version, we brushed two coats of PC-38 Iron Yellow over a single dip of DL-33 Low Tide.

Nouveau Dusk

Dark and draped with tan and light blue highlights, this combination evokes results like Art Nouveau artists like Gustav Klimt. To achieve this look, we applied two brushed coats of PC-48 Art Deco Green over a single dip of DL-12 Midnight Blue, fired to cone 6.

Black Gold

Gold-toned sparkle over deep black, for a dramatic effect! Two brushed coats of PC-69 Cosmic Gold Dust over a single dip of DL-1 Ebony.

Oxblood Frost

Copper Red and frosty blue highlight texture come together in this lovely combo. Two brushed coats of PC-26 Blue Lagoon over a single dip of DL-70 Oxblood.

Vanilla Float

Creamy and sweet! Two brushed coats of PC-19 Moon River over a single dip of DL-11 Enamel White.

Arctic Midnight

This combination boasts beautiful visual texture like glacial ice. Two brushed coats of PC-21 Arctic Blue over a single dip of DL-12 Midnight Blue.

Sargasso Sea

Mysterious and fluid, this glaze combo evokes the expanse of the ocean. We brushed two coats of PC-22 Blue Stone over a single dip of DL-42 River Moss.

Deco Blue

We layered two brushed coats of PC-48 Art Deco Green over a single dip of DL-20 Floating Blue and got this wonderfully marbled-looking result!

Honeycrisp Apple

The deep pink and golden yellow of this cup are reminiscent of a ripe apple! We applied two brushed coats of PC-55 Chun Plum over a single dip of DL-60 Honeycomb.
