Valentine's Day Glazes

Create some romantic vibes for your Valentine's-themed pottery with Amaco glazes

Underglazes

Want to paint detailed images on your pots? Or have stamped messages you want to pop? Try using Velvet underglazes in sweet candy colors like V-317 Coral, a bright warm pink, V-387 Bright Red, or V-381 Amethyst. All three colors are super-saturated for crisp color, and hold their intensity at high temperatures, up to cone 10. For stamped imagery, paint underglaze into the texture and sponge back. Leave unglazed for a matte surface (not suitable for food surfaces). For a glossy, food-safe surface, glaze with HF-10 Clear Transparent or HF-9 Zinc-Free Clear for cone 5-10, or LG-10 Clear Transparent for cone 05.

Single Colors

If you like to keep things simple, maybe you’re looking for a single glaze to spice things up and look perfectly sweet? Try out some of these colors. All are food-safe when applied and fired as directed.

C-53 Weeping Plum, a cool deep pink transparent glaze is lovely on white clay, especially with texture.

Using a darker clay? Try PCF-54 Flux Blossom, a pale creamy pink glaze that breaks clear and looks great on any color of clay. Shown is 2 coats of Flux Blossom on Dark Chocolate Premium clay, fired to cone 5.

Another great choice for Valentine’s vibes is SM-51 Red Satin Matte. Like a satiny lipstick!

Layering Combos

Want to bring the love? Try some of these romantic combinations!

PC-55 Chun Plum over PC-17 Honey Flux creates a soft, warm pink flowing effect and is so very satisfying. This is the combo for vintage Valentines lovers. 2 coats Chun Plum over Honey Flux, fired to cone 6 on A-Mix White Stoneware.

PC-57 Smokey Merlot over PCF-54 Flux Blossom, a purple and pale pink combo, this is great on dark clays as well as light. For those who like their Valentines a little moody. 2 coats of Smokey Merlot applied over 2 generous coats of Flux Blossom, fired to cone 6 on A-Mix White Stoneware.

Use PCF-54 Flux Blossom over C-53 Weeping Plum for a lacy valentine. 2 coats of Flux Blossom over 2 coats of Weeping Plum, fired to cone 6 on A-Mix White Stoneware.

Try out CO-6 Supernova over V-317 Coral pink underglaze for an iridescent pink. 3 coats Supernova over 3 coats Coral Velvet, fired to cone 5 on A-Mix White Stoneware.

We used CR-51 Speckled Pink Crawl over C-54 Snapdragon Celadon for a colorful and unusual glaze effect, perfect for the person who’s one-of-a-kind. For this little A-Mix White Stoneware dish, we brushed on two coats of Snapdragon Celadon. When the glaze was dry, we applied heart-shaped stickers and applied 2 coats of Speckled Pink Crawl glaze. We removed the stickers and fired to cone 5.
