Artist Spotlight: Jasmine R. Brown
About Jasmine
"Hi, my name is Jasmine R. Brown, and I am a self-taught ceramicist, mother of one, based out of North Charleston, South Carolina. I got my start in ceramics about two years ago when I took a class at the Art Place Studio in Mount Pleasant, and have been hand-building ever since."
Q: What inspires your work or keeps you excited in the studio?
A: "My work is mostly inspired by anime, cartoons, 90's aesthetics, cottagecore, and all things whimsical."
Q: What is your favorite AMACO Product and Why?
A: "My favorite Amaco product by far has got to be all of the velvet underglazes. The coverage
and opaqueness of these underglaze is unmatched and allows me to create all kinds of colorful pieces"
Q: Any advice you'd give to someone just starting out with clay?
A: "As far as advice I have for anyone just starting out, the most important value I’d like to instill in others is patience. The best pieces can take months from start to finish, especially when dealing with drying the clay to ensure it survives the kiln."
